At PCWorld.com, the news editor will lead a small team of freelancers and staff writers covering the biggest PC- and Windows-related news of the day. We emphasize quality over quantity, but urgency is also very important. The news editor will work with each contributor to ensure our coverage doesn’t just report the news, but also includes analysis and context. In addition to assigning and editing, the News Editor will also author bylined stories of his or her own.
+ Are an experienced online news editor who’s managed both freelancers and staff writers. You have a proven track record in assigning and editing breaking news, news analysis and other story types that respond to and advance the daily conversation. Your sense of urgency and commitment to excellence is off the charts. You can take any piece of consumer technology news, and spin it into multiple follow-up stories that inform, engage, surprise and delight.
+ Are a tireless reporter who asks penetrating questions, digs for subtext and relevance, and turns around quick, timely copy that’s fun to read, and advances the story in a memorable, engaging way. Your story angles are clever and surprising. Your writing voice is conversational, spirited and even humorous. You know how to connect with modern online readers who thirst for a fresh perspective on PC technology.
+ Have expert-level knowledge of the PC hardware and software industries. You know the products, you know the companies, you know the names of the biggest movers and shakers. You have a deep-seeded passion for PC technology that’s manifest in everything you write and share.
Candidates should have at least three years of editorial experience on a website that focuses on consumer technology.
